Air Travel Advice

I am flying overseas this summer and am weighing the pros and cons of two shorter flights v. one very long, direct flight. My concerns are about the difficulties of frequent walking aboard the aircraft on a long flight, as well as whether prolonged high altitudes are more aggravating to lymphedema. I would appreciate the advice of those with experience.

Hi there,
since my Lymphedema started I have been on a couple of short flights within Europe but also two long flights to Asia (10-12 hours in the air). No problems at all on the short ones but the long ones have been learning curves. It can be done and I will do it again.
However, if I should ever go as far as Australia again (24 hours journey from where I am) I think I would break it up and stay for a night on the way, wrapping the leg, elevating it etc.
There are lots of exercises you can do on board and if you get an aisle seat you can get up and walk around as often as you like. I find that once an hour is good, plus the sitting excercises.
On my blog I have a page/guide with all my in-flight tips and excercies if you are interested.
