LympheWHAT?

I have been overwhelmed by finances, other health problems, a stressful job. The more I look into Lymphedema, I see, the less people know, no cure, no medication, no cause, Questionable treatments.
One week, I called my vascular docs nurseline 3 times, finally some one called and wanted to know how to spell my name, they never got back to me. My pain management doc denies that I have Lymphedema, and my new family doctor is not concerned, He said, think of it as a small problem you have to live with, Doc, should I make it bigger or smaller than my arthritis and cervical and spinal stenosis. Is it bigger or smaller than the bipolar disorder that I have? Tell me Doc!!!

There is treatment!

I agree with you that there is an endless supply of misinformation available about lymphedema; however, there IS TREATMENT.

The National Lymphedema Network (NLN), www.lymphnet.org has recently issused a new position paper on the treatment of lymphedema written by some of the leaders in the field. You can find this on the right column of the NLN home page.

You might consider printing copies of this and sharing them with your doctors who don't understand that lymphedema IS A SERIOUS CONDITION THAT CAN BE TREATED.

The treatment, as describe by the NLN, is known as Complete Decongestive Treatment (CDT). It isn't the magic cure all of us would be delighted to have, and it requires a lot of work on the part of the patient, yet to does help. Without treatment, lymphedema only gets worse and becomes a more serious condition.

If each of us keeps trying to educate our doctors, we CAN make a difference!
