The following new definitions were adopted at the NLN meeting in Washington, D.C. in September 2014.

Lymphedema is a cardiovascular disease that impacts quality of life and overall health.

Lymphedema is frequently misdiagnosed and treated either late or not at all.

Lymphedema is a common complication of all types of cancer treatment and the prevalence is increasing steadily from 0.95% of cancer patients in 2007 to 1.243% in 2013.

In the US, there are currently more than 121,000 people with
cancer related lymphedema.
