Contacting Congress
Your Voice is Important! As the issue of major changes in health care for all comes to the attention of congress, your voice is increasingly important. The following are the best ways to make your voice heard in the discussion of the important issue. Find Your Congressional Representatives: Find the names and contact information for your senators and representatives by going to these web sites www.senate.gov and www.house.gov. These websites will take you to an individual site that has helpful information about your members of congress and the best ways to reach them. Telephone or FAX: The best way to contact these legislators may be to telephone or FAX their office. You can find these phone numbers by going to that legislator’s web site and looking under “Contact Us.” The staff keeps track of the number of calls that come in either in favor or, or against, legislation that is under consideration. E-Mail Now: You send your message by e-mail now! In an effort to reduce the amount spam the legislators receive most insist that e-mail be sent on an “appropriate” form that identifies the sender. You can send your e-mail directly from their web site. E-mails that are not from “the home folks” (in their district) are treated as spam. The Postal Service: This is not the fastest way to have a question answered or even to register your opinion. Using either the phone or e-mail is likely to get you a response more quickly © LymphNotes 2010. This information does not replace the advice of a qualified health care professional.
